Lent Devotional: 1 Peter 1:3-5

1 Peter 1:3-5 (click here)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5)

Reflection
Have you ever inherited anything?

As a young boy, I remember being fascinated by this Native American spearhead that my grandmother had in her china cabinet. Her own father had found it while doing some road construction and it was still in near perfect condition.

She would let me take it out and examine it, hold it, and just be in awe of it. It would be several years later that she would eventually pass it down to me. She kept it, to keep it safe until the time was right for it to be mine in full.

What a gift.

There is a greater gift being kept for all of those who Christ king. You have an inheritance being kept for you by your heavenly father until the day it shall be yours in full. And, wonder of wonders… you can know that it shall be yours, for just as he is keeping your inheritance he is also keeping you!

That’s the declaration of 1 Peter 1:5! There is “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded (kept) through faith…”

God is keeping your inheritance and he is keeping you! How? Through faith!

He is sustaining and strengthening your faith day by day… even right now, in this moment, through reading these promises again!

O’ Christian may your faith be strengthened today by knowing that God is not only keeping an inheritance for you, but he is keeping you! Your inheritance shall be yours… and it is greater than anything anyone else could give you! What is your inheritance? It is HIM!

What a gift!

It is being kept for you… and you are being kept for it! Kept by the power of God!
